STUDY SKILL

Video 1:

The first video was very helpful to me, as I have always had a hard time studying and staying on task. The first video provided me with lots of very useful tools and programs such as Pomodoro which will help me manage tasks, set reminders and overall help me stay focused on my study. I also found the part about quizzing (aka active recall) very helpful as when I would try to study in the past, I would just try to read a piece of information repeatedly till I had it memorized, which I found very boring and took a very long time. I liked how mike compared studying to learning an instrument or playing a sport, and how the only way to get better at it was to be active in it. Mike also talked about spacing which I found interesting as I’ve never heard of it before and how nowadays we use spaced repetition software (SRS) which I am excited to try as before I would just do all my homework and study together just so I had it done.

Video 2:

The second video was very helpful to me too, as I am dyslexic, and I think these tips will help me a lot. I knew about Pseudo-skimming before I watched the video, and it is one of the most helpful active reading habits for me, as it allows me to skip a lot of the filler writing. Thomas also talked about paying attention to the formatting of a text and how he paid special attention to bolded text as it was likely to show up in exam questions, this is something I never really thought about doing before. Thomas also talked about different way to take notes as you're reading a book, my personal favourite of the 3 is taking short bullet point notes on a piece of paper as I am reading it.

Video 3:

The third video was very intriguing, Andrea talks about deconstructing media and how to become a critical thinker through media literacy. She proceeds to show us different examples of media from different companies and how they can manipulate words to make something bad good and by asking ourselves these deconstructive questions how we can find out the truth behind the advertisements. She shows us an example of this by showing us the work of some of the children she has taught media literacy and how the children deconstructed an advertisement and reconstructed it to portray a different image I thought this was a great way of introducing people to media literacy as it show how easy it can be to change the message of an image with only a few small changes.
